Natural Glamour | Get the Look

In true awards style the Hollywood elite usually allow the dresses to do the talking on the red carpet. This means subdued, natural makeup using a palette of sophisticated shades.

beauty71Eyes are subtly smoked, with taupe, dark grey, silver and biscuit shades. Lips go natural pinks with a pinch of berry and terracotta, and inspiration from the S/S10 catwalks is evident everywhere with dewy skin, prepped and polished to perfection. Even Christina Aguilera played down her usually loud face art at the Golden Globes recently with beautiful results.

To get the natural look as seen recently by Olivia Wilde, Christina Aguilera, Marion Cotillard, Kristen Bell and Kate Hudson, Makeup Artist, Peter Carroll, gives you the techniques you’ll need and the best products to achieve the look.

Face:

Mixing a small amount of MAC Strobe Cream or Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion with your foundation will give a dewy look to the skin. NARS also plan to launch a luminizing lotion with their Spring/Summer 2010 range; “Orgasm Illuminator”.

Eyes:
Vanilla colours such as NARS Edie and MAC Vanilla or Mylar should be used on the eyelid and blended up towards the brow bone. Eye sockets should be contoured with colours like MAC Wedge, Showstopper or Satin Taupe. Smashbox Shutterspeed Eye Shadow Trio would also be good for this look and brings a shimmery nude, matte ivory and matte smoke together in one product. Black eyeliner and mascara finish the eyes and soft pencil liners are suited better than cream liners to achieve the smoky finish. MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline is perfect for this look.

Cheeks:
Cheeks should be sculpted with shades like NARS Mata Hari or MAC Pinch O’ Peach. Remember, don’t suck your cheeks in, smile, start on the apple of the cheek and blend out.

Lips:
Keep lips natural with MAC Viva Glam V (my personal favourite when aiming for a subtle but beautiful lip. If you have trouble with keeping your lipstick in place try filling in your lips with a pencil first (don’t line, fill!). MAC Spice works well with Viva Glam V.
