Hot Tea Tuesday – a lil’ bit of eye-candy for your Tuesday lunchtime. This week, our unlikely crush, the wonderfully monikered Benedict Cumberbatch.

This week’s Hot Tea made Sherlock sexy – in a weird way. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch…

Benedict Cumberbatch is one of those people who’s not conventionally attractive but still manages to be wildly sexy – just check out BBC’s Sherlock if you don’t believe us.

As an actor, he’s been knocking around for ages with notable roles in film, tv, radio and theatre productions. Credits include Stephen Hawking in the BBC drama Hawking, Paul Marshall in Atonement, Major Stewart in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, Peter Guillam Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy as well as both Victor Frankenstein and his creature in Danny Boyle’s stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein at the National Theatre. To date, Cumberbatch is probably best known for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, alongside Martin Freeman as Watson, in the BBC’s Sherlock.

This year, he’ll be back on our tellyboxes as Christopher Tietjens in the BBC/HBO co-production television miniseries Parade’s End. And, as if we’re not excited enough about Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (due for release late 2012), Cumberbatch will be portraying Smaug the Dragon through motion capture and voice the Necromancer in the film. He has also joined the cast of the new Star Trek sequel, due for release May 2013.

On what would be on his tombstone…
“I’ve always liked the idea of a joke tombstone where the corner of the stone peels back and there’s a voice saying: ‘Mmm, Danone’. As for something more profound: ‘I hope they got it.’ (Evening Standard Interview, 23 October 2010)
