This week, we’re focusing on The Dark Knight Rises actor Tom Hardy, who plays Batman’s nemesis Bane in the movie hitting our cinema screens this summer.

Hardy on acting with Christian Bale’s Batman: “There’s a three-year-old in me that’s going, ‘Oh my God that’s Batman! That’s Batman and he’s going to hit me! But I love Batman!’. Bless.

Mr Hardy started out as a model (no surprise there), after winning “The Big Breakfast’s Find Me a Supermodel” competition at age 19 and with it a brief contract with Models One.

He made his television debut in the 2001 miniseries “Band of Brothers”, leaving his studies at the prestigious Drama Centre in London for the part and then went on to be cast in Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down and as the villain “Shinzon” in 2002′s Star Trek: Nemesis.

But he’s not just a pretty face. After receiving favourable reviews for his early film, television and theatre roles, in 2008 Hardy took on the role of Charles Bronson in the movie Bronson and wowed critics with his harrowing performance. The part won him a British Independent Film Award for best actor.

Subsequent roles included The Take in 2009, a four-part adaptation of Martina Cole’s bestselling crime novel, as well as “Heathcliff” in a 2009 version of Wuthering Heights.
In 2010, he starred as Eames in Christopher Nolan’s science fiction thriller Inception for which he won a BAFTA Rising Star award. He also starred (replacing Michael Fassbender) in the critically acclaimed Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (2011).

He battled alcoholism and a crack cocaine addiction in his early-to mid-twenties, but has been sober since 2003. Despite rumours of a breakup last year, Hardy is engaged to actress Charlotte Riley and has a four-year-old son Louis from a previous relationship.
