The Next Big Thing…
As if Facebook wasn’t sucking up enough of our time online, here at TNBT we’ve got a new obsession: Pinterest. With pretty pics galore leading us to tasty recipes, hair and make-up inspiration and the latest from the world of fashion, we just can’t keep away.
Browsing on Pinterest is like flicking through the most varied magazine you’ve ever come across and is a great way to while away some time. But, be warned: you can easily get caught up and lose hours! To help you know where to look, check out some of our favourite pinners and boards below.
You might recognise Nina Garcia from Project Runway, and the Marie Claire fashion director’s boards are, as you would expect, packed with the latest from the runway. We particularly like how she has categorised her boards by season and trend – a perfect fashion resource! Famous fashion blog Refinery29 is also on Pinterest, bringing you lookbooks, street style, celeb fashion, shoe stalking and more, while Le registrie’s board dedicated to the various fashion weeks has the best in high-fashion street style. We also love how favourite fashion retailer ModCloth don’t just take the community as a sales opportunity and use their boards to share the inspiration behind their looks.
For hair and make-up inspiration, Dubliner Leanne Woodfull’s boards are packed with pics that could help you find a new look, particularly if you like retro style. While Birchbox’s boards have a great mix of make-up ideas, celeb looks to copy and runway beauty trends.
Foodies to Follow
Kitchen Hero Donal Skehan has been pinning since before Christmas and his boards have plenty of tasty recipes, as well as tips and tricks from food blogs and home styling ideas. Irish detox chef, Dorcas Barry is also pinning plenty of recipes and info on changing your life with food. American magazine Real Simple have plenty of recipe boards for healthy eating, meal planners and three-ingredient recipes, while the first lady of home-making, Martha Stewart herself has plenty for hungry eyes to devour.
The boards to watch come from The High Point Market, who have enlisted top interior stylists to curate boards from April 21st to 26th illustrating key upcoming trends (something they already completed for autumn/winter 2011). Stylelist not only has great decorating ideas and colour schemes, they also have boards for upcycling, crafts and DIY projects, for those looking for a more hands-on approach to updating their home. Elsewhere, Drake University’s décor tips board is aimed at dorm-roomers and so has great space-saving ideas and products on the cheap, while Closet Space by Michael Kors can give you wardrobe ideas (or wishes!).
Sometimes all you want from Pinterest is to look at something pretty, and if that’s the case we advice you take a look at photographer Hansol Kim’s boards for stunning portraits and fashion and interiors photography, old and new. LIFE.com’s boards collate iconic professional photographs, while user Maia McDonald’s Nature board has some incredible images from the natural world. For more cute than culture, Animal snaps are everywhere on Pinterest, ranging from impressive and artistic to simply squee. The Furry Friends board from Oreck is defo super cute and worth a look.
All Kinds of Everything
Pinners can be so prolific that it’s hard to pigeonhole them into just one category. Some of our favourite random collections come from Sarah Kavanagh, whose colour-coded boards are lovely to behold, and Jane Wang, one of the most popular pinners and great for a wide variety if you’re just dipping your toe into the community. And then there’s BuzzFeed, where you’ll find a random collection of boards dedicated to soused cats, 90s heartthrobs and corgis.
And, of course, be sure to follow Stylesiren on Pinterest for boards on fashion, beauty, art and culture – not not to mention stuff we love to look at and like to laugh at.
